Game Sound Jobs

Are you interested in working behind the scenes of video game production? If so, then game sound may be a perfect fit! Musicians and Sound Designers are finding the Video Game Industry to be very rewarding and lucrative.
When most people think of creating music and sound for games, they think of the Xbox, PS3 or Wii. Some may even get curious about the Nintendo 3DS or Sony NGP. The truth is, the industry is exploding with opportunities right now and these platforms barely even scrape the surface of possible work sources.
The mobile industry is leaving these platforms in the dust with new gaming devices being released almost weekly! Mobile development has hit an all time high for the iPhone and Android as well as emerging platforms like Windows Phone 7, with its Xbox Live integration.

Development teams are forming out of thin air and there is a good chance they need someone like you, who has a passion for all things sound.

Can you create sweeping orchestral scores or cool electronic music? How about strange and beautiful soundscapes? These are just common requests of game developers but the possibilities are endless. What you really need is a big set of ears! The in-house audio jobs can cover everything from implementation to straight programming as well as audio director.

Those with a background in radio usually have experience with voice over talent.

This can be a valuable skill in the game industry.
Any prior experience with audio production is invaluable and will make your transition a smooth one.

For those with no prior experience, there are now schools specializing in game sound production.

The freelance route is also becoming popular as teams become smaller and more agile.

Most freelance composers work across several teams and juggle many projects all at once. The downside to freelance is the uncertainty of where that next paycheck is coming from.
The upside, however, is setting your own schedule and being in control of your career.
In house audio jobs also have their ups and downs, but it really comes down to personal preference!
